Denim Rules! What Your Jeans Say About You

$
0
0

Think your denim utters nary a word about you? We beg to differ.

Take bell bottom jeans, for example. These pants, with their iconic bell-shaped hems, were introduced innocently enough—sailors in the U.S. Navy first wore them in the 19th century. By the late 1960s, however, these exaggerated flares had been adapted by fashion-forward teenagers, not only as adolescent garb, but also to show a generation’s counterculture sensibilities. Even today bell bottoms speak so symbolically that they’ve become a key emblem of the 1970s, as much as a tie-dye headband.

Sporting bell bottoms in modern times isn’t out of date, but simply retro-chic, depending on your overall sense of style. Luckily, you’ve got plenty of other denim options—from skinny jeans to colored jeans—that speak volumes, too.

So what are the new fashion rules for wearing denim? Just one: DENIM RULES!

Jeans, in all their body-contouring comfort, can be worn everywhere—from the office to after-work parties. Whether you want to live in denim at work or play, the key is adapting jean-altering trends to suit your own style.

What do your jeans say about you? From revealing classical leanings to trend-spotting clues, we’ll tell you how your jeans are spilling the beans. But first, we’ll look at the different types of jeans out there.

SKINNY JEANS

Strutting your stuff in skinny jeans means one thing: You enjoy showing off your body. Skinny jeans say, “I want to attract attention,” and they do. Caution: Skinny jeans are for slender and fit bodies only. Wear a long top either tucked in or worn on the outside to avoid a “whale’s tail” fashion disaster (a.k.a your underwear showing)

BOOT-CUT JEANS

Boot-cut jeans are just a step above “mom jeans”. In other words, they make for a flattering look, but they’re not exactly trendsetting. Boot-cuts say you’re not willing to push the envelope, but you’re also not willing to be completely left behind. How to make them cool? Wear them with a more modern shoe and funky accessories to liven up the look.

JEGGINGS

As in, jean-leggings. These super-slim pants are often manifestations of personality traits like being ultra-trendy and having a youthful flair. But, keep in mind that they are best worn by slim guys and gals. Jeggings are very useful since they have a “tights” effect. They are great with voluminous, long and multi-layered tops.

BELL-BOTTOMS

The bell-bottom wearing woman is one who appreciates the “vintage” look. But they work mostly for people who have some height to their frames. Word to the wise: Bell-bottoms paired with a fitted top will draw attention to the waistline.

COLORED DENIM

Why live on just blue alone? A colored jean suggests whimsy and fun with a bit of “I’m not afraid to experiment” mixed in. Just avoid going monochrome—yellow over yellow, for instance, is a fashion disaster waiting to happen. How to wear it: Since the colored denim will take center stage, pair it on top with neutrals and clean lines.

Finding that elusive, yet perfect jean for your body type and personality can take a lot of time. Luckily, SM Supermalls will be holding a month-long jeans festival this July. Celebrating fashion that never goes out of style, SM will showcase a wide variety of events for denim lovers everywhere.

Pink Parlour Hand Paraffin Wax Treatment Review + Giveaway

Pink Parlour never fails to treat their clients like royalties as they always come up with new relaxing treats for them! Last week, I was able to try out their latest royalty treatment, the Hand Paraffin Wax, at their SM The Block branch. This one definitely suited me well cause my hands were abused from writing case digests and notes for school. This is definitely a treat that I needed at that time!

I'll never get tired of seeing Pink Parlour's super cute and girly interior. Aside from that, they also have nice and comfy seats, tons of pillows, blankets, and your very own Pink Parlour kitty to keep you company.

I've never tried a hand paraffin wax treatment before so I was curious how this one goes. Although I've tried mani and pedi services with Pink Parlour before, I think this treatment is quite different and is more for the purposes of relaxation and for keeping the hands soft.

While waiting for the paraffin wax to dissolve (and while watching Maybe This Time :p), my hands were then washed and scrubbed using peppermint scrub. My hands actually felt less stressed by then.

After the wax has finally dissolved, we proceeded to one of the cubicles where they had it melted. Using a stick, Ms. Che tried first if the wax was too hot. She then let me try to gauge if I could tolerate the heat. When she got my approval, I was instructed to spread my fingers and she then dipped each of my hands thrice on the liquefied wax. I really didn't know what to expect so I was quite surprised with the heat. But after the first try, I enjoyed the succeeding dips and I felt my hands were getting more relaxed. My hands were then covered with plastic wraps and small towels and the wax was left on my hands for 20 to 25 minutes.

While watching Coco Martin and Sarah G's movie (which I actually finished he he!)

Removing the wax was very easy and not painful at all. It actually peels off easily. The wax was still warm despite the time that has elapsed. My hands then felt super soft. After the relaxing wax treatment, I was then treated to a hand massage. The relaxing heat from the wax and the massages and scrubs made my hands felt like they were in heaven!

The Paraffin Wax Treatment by itself costs P550. But you could avail it with their manicure service for only P700! I could say that the latter is more worth it! They use only the best nail lacquers such as OPI and China Glaze. And I swear to you that your hands won't get murdered! :)

Thanks Ms. Che for taking care of me!!! :D

Want to try out this treatment with your bff? :) Just enter through the Rafflecopter app!

Goodluck!

Aquabest, The Water of Tomorrow

People today live very hectic lifestyle having to juggle their careers, social lives, among others. Between rushing to and from meetings or parties, people tend to neglect their health. As a result, most people turn to various diets and therapy to help improve their health. What most people don’t get is that drinking lots of water can just be as effective as fancy therapies and diets in keeping you in shape.

Drinking water helps cleanse and revitalize the body sweeping away toxins and impurities in the body. Water also helps keep our energy and alertness levels up all day. Overall, drinking lots of water can lead to greater personal wellness and well-being. However, not all water is the same some are better than others.

Aquabest Granderized water in particular is radically different from other types of drinking water being not only clean but also healthy. Utilizing four unique technologies Grander, Tanwing, Nanogen, and Reverse Osmosis; Aquabest alters the very nature of water to make it better.

Tanwing Technology and Reverse Osmosis are filtration technologies that help eliminate practically all contaminants in the water making them safe and clean. Tanwing works by utilizing two wavelengths of ultraviolet radiation to help eliminate all biological contaminants. At the same time, reverse osmosis filters water at the nanometer level far smaller than a strand of hair to ensure that all impurities are filtered out.

The Nanogen and Grander Technologies work at the molecular level to infuse health giving properties to the water by affecting the molecular structure of the water. Nanogen is a Korean technology that utilizes nanotechnology to neutralize pure water’s inherent acidity. Acidic water is supposed to be a contributing factor to some diseases. Grander Technology from Austria alters the molecular structure of water to improve body absorption.

Normal water molecules are large and irregularly shaped. This causes uneven rates of absorption into the body making it inefficient and disorganized. With Grander Technology the water molecules are compressed and given a uniform shape. This facilitates faster and more efficient absorption into the body.

Overall, Aquabest Granderized Water improves on the inherent cleansing and rejuvenating qualities of water.  Each drop reaches deeper into the core of every cell in our bodies allowing them to perform their functions better. Drinking Aquabest Granderized Water will rejuvenate the body at its very core helping people look and feel better.

Life Schooling and Parenting Advice by Gladys Reyes and Thammie Sy

“The most important thing you should do is be there whenever your children need you the most,” shared Gladys Reyes on what she learned as a mom.

At the Baby & Family Expo Philippines, organized by Mediacom Solutions, Inc., MTRCB board member, celebrity, entrepreneur and hands-on mom Gladys Reyes told the expo attendees that as soon as a woman enters the phase of motherhood, she’ll learn what unconditional love truly means. Reyes, a mother of three, said that there may come a time when one will feel guilty about not being home for hours to closely monitor the kids. But she emphasized that parents need not to choose between being a career person and a parent.

The key is very simple: Give your kids the quality time they need. “It’s not about how long the hours are, it’s rather the quality you give to that allotted time,” she said.

With the advent of social networking, a parent’s attention can also be easily diverted. You may be physically present, but your attention is elsewhere, which makes it just the same when you’re not around.

Thammie Sy, a proud mom who runs a famous mommy blog, promotes home schooling and good parenting. Instead of home schooling though, she prefers to call it “life schooling” because from the moment the child is born until he grows up, it is the mom’s duty to educate him about life. She also talked about the importance of setting goals.

According to her, it is important to guide your children to the path of being good and responsible citizens. It is also crucial to ask yourself the “Why?”. Answering this will give you purpose and will give you a strong foundation to reach your goals. Sy also advised, “Instead of them entering our world, let’s enter theirs” she said. Every kid has their own personality and learning styles. So it is vital for every parent to respect their kid’s learning styles and let them grow with a strong sense of self.

With the right knowledge and trustworthy people to back you up, parenting will be much more rewarding than what you ever imagined.

To learn more about parenting and life schooling, register at www.babyexpo.ph to get FREE access to the 2nd BABY & FAMILY EXPO PHILIPPINES 2014 happening on August 01-03, 2014 at the World Trade Center Manila, where expecting parents, parents and family members can learn the latest trends on pregnancy, babies, children and parenting, as well as explore innovative pregnancy, babies, children, parenting and family products and services from over 300 local and international exhibitors that would make Filipino families' lives easier,

Georcelle Dapat-Sy: Dancer, Mentor, Mother

$
0
0

Georcelle Dapat-Sy is first and foremost a dancer – mention “dance” and her name is bound to crop up in the entertainment circle of the local industry. Her dedication and commitment to her craft has earned her a niche in a saturated industry that will make room for someone who has worked hard to distinguish her talent. However, Georcelle’s talent in grace in motion is not confined to the stage or the studio alone; it spills over into her personal life, in her mothering, and ultimately in her mentoring of the next generation at large.

Once again, Georcelle gets involved in Promil’s Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp, which aims to tap the inert talents of the very young and to help them wield the potency that they hold inside.

“The Promil Pre-school program is about recognizing talent. When the potential is seen in a young person, it is categorized,” Georcelle says. Whether innate intelligence or a natural inclination for arts, the mother of three is keen on picking out kids who are naturals in dancing. And this is when the fun starts.

Georcelle knows the benefits of early intervention or starting the mentoring while they’re soft and pliant. She herself started out that way.

A strong sense of determination despite limitations

Contrary to popular notion, being well off is not necessarily a prerequisite to the proper developing of talent. Though many families are blessed to be able to send their children to the most expensive dance schools and hire top of the line instructors, Georcelle didn’t have that kind of privilege to start with. However, she was blessed with parents who were musically inclined.

Her parents quickly recognized her abilities and brought her to the dance program at the Metropolitan Theatre. She took up different styles like tap, jazz, ballet, folk, contemporary and Hawaiian. And because she didn’t come from a wealthy family, her mother was always looking to get her a scholarship while bringing her to auditions at the same time.

In the midst of diligent quests, divine intervention took place. Once, on a trip to UP Diliman to get into the dance program of Tony Fabella and Eddie Elejar, Georcelle and her mom made a mistake and ended up in Felicita Radaic’s class instead. “When we met her, akala niya (she thought) I was an aspiring ballerina, because I had the build. She then wrote a letter to Metropolitan Dance Theatre’s director to put me in the dance scholarship.” This was a heady lesson for the young dancer: Georcelle learned that where funds were lacking, a strong sense of determination would more than make up for it. And fate did the rest.

But the whole process was tedious, testing the young Georcelle’s patience. Nevertheless, Georcelle looks back now and realizes that not everyone gets a chance to study with the best. “My teachers were the best in the country (Agnes Locsin, Noordin Jumalon). They guided me. And true enough, once I started dancing, tuloy tuloy na from there.”

Georcelle was all of 10 years old when she began. At the age of 14, she had become a professional.

Nurturing her children through her passion for dance

Georcelle feels that dancing as a passion promotes closeness and love. As dancing is likewise a part of her, she used it to nurture her children, and not exclude them from an area that dominates her life.

Eventually she exposed her children to the best. “I show them performances, either in concert or ‘You Think You Can Dance’ or ‘America’s Best Dance Crew.’ Then I tell them that the performers trained hard before they reached the level of their performance. My point is that you have to train if you want to be the best. It’s achievable as long as you know the ABC’s and basics. And from there you take it to the next level.”

For Georcelle, the foundation of mentoring kids is love. “We do a lot of hugging, especially when the dancing mood strikes them. Outside of dance, it’s 24/7 parenting. I take my kids to school in the mornings. When I get home from a busy day, I hug them and kiss them even when they’re asleep.”

Does she see herself in them? “Teachers say my kids show qualities in leadership. They have a sense of command. That’s what they got from me.”

The top dance choreographer pays it forward

Not content with just being the top dance choreographer in the land, Georcelle has also had a hand in building G-Force as the leading dance company in the showbusiness today. This has been instrumental in her mentoring the next generation of dancers. Dance classes called ‘Me and My Little Force,’ are designed for the parent and child.

“I started dancing na wala akong pambili ng sapatos (when I had no money to buy shoes). I had a dream to give a chance to those who didn’t have the means.” For Georcelle, it was all about expressing her gratitude for having all those great teachers when she was young. “So now this is my way of paying it forward.”

Today, the G-Force Project is becoming more and more of a family event. It started out as morning classes for kids, until she eventually decided to put in the moms who were requesting for zumba classes with the kids.

“Me and my 4-year old son dance together, so that’s where I got the inspiration. In class the little ones would mimic their mommies and that’s a great way to develop motor skills and photographic memory. When they grow up they’ll remember the fun, the exercise and the bonding.”

It’s clear that being a mother has made Georcelle not just a better person, but a better mentor as well.

Homecoming Dresses That Make You Stand Out!

In school related formal gatherings like homecoming and prom, everyone would usually put their best effort to make sure that they look absolutely glamorous and unforgettable. Who would not want to be reigned as the Homecoming Queen or Prom Queen of your batch, right? It is definitely great to be remembered by everyone just because you look awesome that day. Hence, shopping for an outfit, especially for the ladies, is very crucial.

The downside of buying dresses from the mall is that chances are great that there would be someone who would be wearing the same dress. Having someone wear the same dress as you are wearing is just the most horrifying moment everyone could go through. The options found in the mall are also very limited and they carry outdated items. Luckily, shopping was made easy by online shops such as Dress V and the options online are endless.

One of the perks of shopping homecoming dresses and formal dresses online is that the designs are endless. Online shops carry all sorts of designs from mini dresses, ankle length dresses, tea length dresses and more. They also have different necklines and fabric to choose from. The colors to choose from are also numerous. Thus, you could customize to make sure that you get the dress that you want.

The best thing about shopping homecoming and formal dresses online is that it is very affordable. I have tried shopping at Macy’s a few years back for a formal dress and I was quite shocked with the prices of the dresses. Most of them are very simple and they cost more than $150 each. Of course, that was a few years back so I guess they’ve gone more expensive now. With regard to online shopping, prices are competitive. Inexpensive homecoming dresses from Dress V are sold for only less than $100! These dresses are not the simple ones that you get from the mall but intricately done ones that would make sure that you stand out from the crowd!

Visit http://www.dressv.com to see their entire collection!

Condo Living To The Max

$
0
0

Condos aren’t mansions, but they are a perfect lifestyle fit for some, especially the younger generation that's always on the go. Sure, it’s less space, but they’re chock full of goodness. Condominiums you say? Nay. They are Condomaximums!

Here's a few reasons why condo-living rocks:

BE SOCIABLE
Living in a condo building you’ll naturally be around more people. Since units are closer together and there are many more common areas like party rooms, fitness centers, and pools, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to meet your neighbors and kick it.

GET CLOSER TO THE ACTION
You’re a mover and a shaker. You need to be knee-deep in the action and the condo life brings you closer to restaurants, bars, theaters, and many other city-centric events and shows. In a country full of commutes, you’ll perpetually be less than 20 minutes away from everything.

LOCK IT, THEN ROCKET
A condo is like life before kids. It used to be so easy to spontaneously decide to go to dinner and drinks with the wife. 3 kids later? It takes 25 minutes just to get in the car. That’s a house. You can’t just leave a house. A condo though? Lock it up and head to Europe for a month.

EXCEPTIONAL AMENITIES
Condos feature amenities for all residents including recreational facilities, fitness centers, as well as pools. Plus, with the homeowners association dealing with all the maintenance affairs, all you can do is enjoy.

MAXIMUM SECURITY
Still afraid of the dark? I don’t blame you--it’s terrifying. But it’s nothing that the locked-down, buttoned-up security of a condo building can’t fix for you. With keyed entrances, on duty security, and security cameras, it’ll take an Ocean’s Eleven-type heist to get anywhere near your authentic Darth Vader replica costume. All that security leads to fewer break-ins and a warm, fuzzy feeling inside.

BE ECO-FRIENDLY
Walk, bike, and ride public transportation around the city with a clear conscience. It won’t be your car emissions that’ll be body-slamming Mother Earth to death.

NEIGHBORLY ASSISTANCE
Unlike the death trappiness of a home, you’re never far from people in your condo building. This really pays off when you have an emergency--like that time you got your foot stuck in the toilet.

LOOK MA, NO UPKEEP

Denim Overload

Although I got tons of denim pieces in my closet, I had a hard time dressing up for the #MadAboutDenim event. Of course, I don't want to go to an event with something that I would casually wear to school. Luckily, this boyfriend denim jacket from Romwe (which I absolutely loooooove) arrived just in time! The fit is nice and the gradient makes it unique. It's very comfortable to wear too, as compared to other denim jackets that are kind of stiff.

Boyfriend Denim Jacket and Denim Shorts from Romwe.com, SM Dept Store shoes, Daniel Wellington watch, Necklace from Bellast.com

Hype this look!

Thanks Mommy Jen for taking my photos! :)

As for the rest of the outfit, I am wearing a top given to me by my best friend and my favorite Daniel Wellington watch. I'll never get tired of wearing such classy watch! My denim shorts are also from Romwe. It's one of the most comfiest denim shorts that I own as the material is very stretchable. As for the shoes, they're my sister's and she got them for only P199 at SM Fairview! What a cheap find! I am looking for the same design at SM North but I can't find any. Anyway, hope you liked this look! :)

Aquabest the country’s premier water refilling franchise is set to revolutionize the way Filipino’s experience drinking water as it launches its four exclusive water treatment technologies.

Utilizing its new technologies the company will enable the company’s 700 store network to produce Granderized water a type of water that is not only clean but also healthy. The company utilizes four unique technologies Grander, Tanwing, Nanogen, and Reverse Osmosis; that alters the very nature of water to make it better.

Grander Technology from Austria alters the molecular structure of water to improve body's absorption.

Overall, Aquabest Granderized Water improves on the inherent cleansing and rejuvenating qualities of water.  Each drop reaches deeper into the core of every cell in our bodies, allowing them to perform their functions better. Drinking Aquabest Granderized Water  will rejuvenate the body at its very core helping people look and feel better.

Midea Creates Lab-A-Fair with your Laundry

I consider doing the laundry as one of the most time consuming household chores. It just takes so much of our precious times when we have better things to do (especially for someone like me who rarely has extra time as I juggle law school and motherhood). But still, someone has got to do this task. Luckily, modern Filipino families are now given such opportunity to turn this tedious task into a fast, convenient, time-saving and affordable one.

During a whole day activity last Saturday, families of Barangay Holy Spirit along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City trooped to the Barangay Holy Spirit covered court for the “Midea Lab-A-Fair”. These families and members of the press were the first to experience what Midea washing machines, particularly the Midea One-Touch Washing Machine, are all about.

Gelli Victor and Gabe Mercado, hosts for the Midea Lab-A-Fair event

The Midea Lab-A-Fair showcased the helpful capabilities of the Midea One-Touch Washing Machine in enabling families to take charge of their laundry. With just one push of a button, they can now wash, rinse and dry their laundry and ensure better efficiency and delicate handling of their wash load. Imagine what you could do with the time you saved from doing the laundry manually.

Midea 10kg. Fully Automatic One Touch Washing Machine

What differentiates Midea from other kinds of washing machines is that the Midea One-Touch Washing Machine boasts of one-touch button features which provides 16 percent better cleaning of clothes. It has a 3D Waterfall feature that creates strong water current inside to enable water and detergent to penetrate the fabric more efficiently.  Meanwhile, the Water Magic Cube feature saves time by doing away with untangling of clothes, and the Smart Sensors checks that the right amount of water is loaded in every wash.

A total of 10 Midea One-Touch washing machines were installed for the Midea Lab-A-Fair, with eight positioned at the “One Touch Laba Station” at the court, and two more units at the Demo Truck parked nearby. Each washing machine unit has a power meter installed to showcase its P1 per wash load capability. The Midea One-Touch washing machine not only helps you regulate the amount of water that you use, but it also helps you regulate your electricity use. Of course, we did not miss our chance to try out the Midea One-Touch washing machine for ourselves!

Placing laundry detergent and fabric conditioner before doing the magic...
.. then just click Power and Start!

The free laundry activity allowed 100 registrants to do the free One Touch trial, with a maximum of eight kilos of laundry per person. To participate, barangay residents first went to the weighing stations to determine the weight of their laundry.  Then their laundry was then placed in a special bag complete with a number tag that served as the resident’s queue number for the One-Touch Laba Station. While waiting for their laundry to finish, a handful of Midea Specialists talked about the innovative special features of the Midea One-Touch Washing Machine.

Participants from Brgy. Holy Spirit fall in line to try out the Midea One-Touch washing machine

But the Midea Lab-A-Fair was not just about washing clothes for free. As an added treat to Barangay Holy Spirit residents, special activity booths were also set up to highlight the washing machine’s features and to deliver more fun and excitement.

Members of the media were likewise eager to try out the Midea One-Touch washing machine

The booths featured entertaining games such as “PISO Roleta Game,” “Magic Cube Game,” “Water Control Game,” and a photo booth where residents had their photos taken and got a free souvenir from Midea. A special entertainment show hosted by Gelli Victor and Gabe Mercado featured thrilling games like the “One Touch Game” and the “Pera O Batya Game.”  I myself even joined the games and won a selfie-pod. :p In the raffle, lucky residents took home special prizes like Midea Laundry Packages and brand-new Midea Microwave Ovens.

The event was indeed a success as more families were now introduced to an efficient way of doing their laundries with Midea washing machines. Mr. Joeben Gamatero, Marketing Director of Concepcion Midea, Inc. said “We are very delighted with the turnout and we look forward to doing this more often, particularly in barangays in Metro Manila where washing clothes is quite difficult. Drying is also a challenge given the rainy weather we have. This event is Midea’s gift to the people where they can experience doing their laundry in the most cost-efficient way and most of all, be able to enjoy doing it,”

And here's me winning a brand new Midea One-Touch washing machine! No more excuses in not doing my own laundry. :p Thank you, Midea!!! Here with me is Mr. Julio Sulit of Midea.

Midea, one of the world’s most trusted appliance brands, is distributed in the Philippines by Concepcion Midea, Inc., a joint venture of the country’s big names in quality home appliances, Concepcion Industrial Corporation and Concepcion Carrier Air Conditioning, with the objective of bringing quality and innovative home appliances to consumers in the Philippines.

Formal Dress Trend: Cutouts

It is not everyday that we are given the chance to wear elegant formal dresses. So when given a chance to wear one, it is just right to seize the opportunity to show people your glamorous side. There may be numerous formal dresses available in the market right now, but there is nothing more eye catching than dresses with cutouts on them. While these dresses may appear to be simple, the cutout nevertheless gives these dresses more character. Cutouts just help you exude a subtle sexiness that is still classy yet bold. Here are some of the sexy homecoming dresses from DressV that I absolutely love:

I believe that cutouts must be strategically placed in the dress so that it would not look too sexy or cheap. This must be taken into consideration especially if you are to attend a formal gathering which requires a strict dress code. Personally, I prefer dresses with cutouts in the back because they do not look trashy at all. Yet, dresses with cutouts in the back look effortlessly elegant and sexy at the same time. With that cutout in the dress, everyone will surely turn their heads once you pass by!

Visit http://www.dressv.com to see more formal dresses!
